The more you speak to someone else who is dealing with similar circumstances, the easier it will be to open up and discuss the information. After you meet with your counsellor, talk about what you did or didn't do the day that your anxiety kicked in. Many times, it is simply the result of something that went wrong. Then, make sure that you take the time to write down what you did. You don't want to get into trouble by giving the wrong answers to your counsellor!


The counselling for trauma and PTSD is not just about talking about the horrors that were faced by the patient, it is also about re-learning some skills that you may have lost. With therapy, you are learning to keep emotions under control and to face the problems without letting them consume you.


You may have had your first panic attack after attending an event where you witnessed a traumatic stress disorder, or after you were involved in a car accident. Whatever the situation, talk to your counsellor about what was happening and how you could have handled it differently.


Many people have gone on to live happy and productive lives after having experienced traumatic stress disorder. Their experiences have opened them up to understanding their fears and helping them realize that they can get through these fears in healthy ways.


It may take time to find a good counsellor, but it will be worth it in the end. You will be able to have a life again, and the counsellor will be a valuable resource in helping you to do so.
